Kids in Action 8 - United in Solidarity



ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION


The duration of the project activities is 12 months (August 2021 – August 2022). 5 volunteers are needed to take part in the year long volunteering project in Škofja Loka, Slovenia. They will be involved in 10 local organizations active the field of youth, social care, prevention and education (Day Care centers for Children and Youth, Schools, Project learning of young adults...). Volunteers will be included in the work of 1-2 organizations as equal members of their teams and as such they will have an opportunity to show and improve their own abilities, develop sense of initiative, gain new skills and get new knowledge through organizing and realizing different activities (workshops, courses, individual support, sports, games, plays, presentations, lectures).


ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS


The volunteers will be accommodated in the flat located on the main square of Škofja Loka, old historical town with about 13000 inhabitants, located 25 km NW from Ljubljana. Each volunteer will stay in single bedroom with shared cooking, washing, laundry and social facilities. Volunteers will cook by themselves, monthly food allowance will be provided (180 €). They will be also entitled to receive a monthly allowance of 120 €. To each of the volunteers, the bike will be provided and tickets for public transportation (if needed).


PARTICIPANT PROFILE


Candidates should be motivated, flexible, patient, creative, open-minded, self-initiative, communicative, interested to work with children, adolescents and they should be able to speak English. Some past experiences from pedagogy, psychology and youth leisure are welcomed. Ability in music, sport, manual activities, handcrafts, dances, art, multimedia would be also convenient. Future volunteer should bring in her/his own ideas into the project and be prepared to create, plan and execute her/his own projects. We look for 8 volunteers of a different nationality.

The first candidates considered suitable for the project will be selected.

For now, the deadline for the applications is 1st March 2021, but the selection period might be prolonged.

We are offering young people the opportunity to volunteer in Leipzig, in general for a period of twelve months.

We offer a variety of placements in the social, cultural and educational sector. If you are interested in taking part in ESC (European Solidarity Corps), you should be between 18 and 30, live in an European or partner country and be willing to commit your time, energy and enthusiasm to volunteer for a longer period of time.

Description:

The Markkleeberg eco house of the CJD Saxony opened on September 2020. Originally it was built with local wood, straw and clay in 2008 and 2009 as a straw bale house with a green roof. It is located in the 50 hectare Agra Park, which was originally created in 1890 and is now a memorial of garden art. Some parts of the park are a landscape protection area "Leipziger Auwald" as well as protected under European Bird sanctuary.

A second working place is a youth centre/open point for children and youth not far from the eco house. It is a place where young people design their leisure time supported by the staff. Apart from games, sports and music job orientation and learning to lead a self-sustained life are important topics of the work with the youths.

Tasks:

In the eco house the volunteer works in the garden. Beside daily gardening there are special nature youth activities that can be supported or created by the volunteer. The volunteers helps within nature education projects, and it is foreseen that the volunteer develops and realize with the support of the staff own nature education offers. The eco house is still in the initial phase so ideas and own projects of the volunteer are welcome.

In the youth club the volunteer support the youths and the staff designing and carrying through leisure activities on a daily base as well as special projects which have a longer duration. The volunteer shall bring aspects of his or her own country into the work, e.g. music, games, sports, language, cooking or handicraft.

Selection criteria:

Interest in working with youth / interest in working in nature (he/she should like working and being outside, working with wood, plants...)/ open-mindedness and self-initiative.

The hosting institution is a kindergarten with a capacity of 180 children (120 kindergarten places including 6 integration places and 60 nursery places). The institution has a focus on Northern Europe, especially Sweden, and takes part in pedagogic exchange programs. Another focus for us is the inclusion of children with disabilities.

Tasks:

The volunteer supports the workers in their daily routines with the kids and shall support own small or bigger projects in the kindergarten. He/She will get to know a pedagogic insight into the open work of the institution. The volunteer will work in a group with children between 2 and 7 years.

Selection criteria:

Potential volunteers should be interested in working with children in a kindergarten and like kids / A plus are volunteers from Northern Europe (because of the profile of the kindergarten)/ open-minded and communicative behavior / ability to work in different groups.
